Words shape our worlds. They can delight, inspire, provoke, comfort and unite—as do the authors, journalists and poets who wield them. The Vancouver Writers Fest encourages readers of all ages to explore the power of storytelling and books, through dozens of events with local and international writers. The Vancouver Writers Fest mission is to bring readers and writers together to re-imagine our lives and our world through story and vibrant dialogue.
The activities to achieve this include both year-round programming and their flagship, annual literary festival: one of the largest, and most prestigious in North America, which brings tens of thousands of audience members to see events with local and international authors during one glorious week in October.
In its 30-year history the Festival has presented luminaries such as Martin Amis, Margaret Atwood, Madeleine Thien, Timothy Findley, Thomson Highway, John Irving, Robbie Robertson, Kim Thuy, Ann-Marie MacDonald, Karl Ove Knausgaard, Rohinton Mistry, Alice Munro, J.K. Rowling, Salman Rushdie, Tim Winton, Sarah Waters, Frank McCourt, Wab Kinew, Eleanor Catton.
